Playoff Friday Marred By Crash

Three school busses transporting the Colerain High School football team to its Friday playoff game in Mason Friday were involved in a chain reaction crash on Northbound I-75. The accident sent 7 students and one coach to area hospitals with minor injuries. The crash was reported at 5:23pm near the Cincinnati Dayton Road exit, according to Lt. Matthew Keener with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Keener says the lead bus from the Northwest Local School District stopped abruptly when it came upon stopped traffic. The ensuing chain reaction caught up the other two busses, as well as a pickup truck. West Chester and other EMS squads took the victims to UC West Chester and Childrens Hospital's Liberty Campus. None of the injuries were life threatening. The game was delayed for an hour to give Colerain time to warm up. The Cardinals fell to Mason 14-7.

Double Homicide Victims Identified

The Butler County Coroner's Office has identified two men who were gunned down in Hamilton Tuesday night near Bailey Square. 22 year old Dariel Perez was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the gunfire erupted on the 700 block of South Second Street, around 7:05pm.  29 year old Jonathan Terrell Jones was rushed to Fort Hamilton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:18pm. Injured in the shooting was 23 year old Anthony Rippey, and 3 year old Saviyah Bryant, who was hit by a bullet fragment, according to police spokesman Sgt. Brian Ungerbuehler. Police are asking for anyone who has information about the shooting to call the Investigations Division at (513) 868-5811 ext. 2002.

Swimming Suspect Captured

A burglary suspect who allegedly jumped into a large pond to avoid capture was arrested Friday by Butler County Sheriff's deputies. 40 year old Mathias Jones of New Miami was arrested on a warrant of Breaking and Entering, a 5th degree felony, according to Detective Janee Lambert. She says Jones was observed fleeing the scene of a business alarm at the old VFW site on the 4000 block of Trenton Road. Deputies chased the suspect, who jumped into the pond, and started swimming. Deputies did not see Jones come out on the other side, triggering a search by the sheriff's Emergency Response Services team, who used boats, sonar, and drones in a day long search. Sheriff Richard Jones is quoted as saying "Great job by all, he should have left the swimming to the muskrats."

Murder/Suicide Names Released In Hamilton

(Hamilton)--The Butler County Coroners Office has released the identifications of two people found shot to death in Hamilton Saturday morning. Police believe 31 year old Pedro Corcino shot 30 year old Samantha Bowling,
then turned the gun on himself. It happened

at 676 Rockford Drive. 9-1-1 calls reviewed by WMOH News indicate the bodies were found by Samantha Bowling's father.

Hamilton police are investigating a reported murder/suicide on the West Side. Officers were called to 676 Rockford Drive on a report of two people shot at that location. They arrived to find two victims dead at the scene. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and no other suspects are being sought. The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Man Shot Dead In West Chester

West Chester police are investigating a deadly shooting Thursday at an apartment complex on the 5000 block of Aster Park Drive. Police were called around 5:21pm, and found the victim, 22 year old Keshon Sanders, inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to UC-West Chester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses who called 9-1-1 reported hearing up to six shots. No arrests have been announced. 

Mistrial Declared In Singh case

A mistrial was declared Friday in the murder trial of 40 year old Gurpreet Singh. A jury failed to agree on a verdict after two days of deliberations. The West Chester man faced the possibility of the death penalty if convicted of killing his wife,
his in laws, and his aunt at their Wyndtree Drive apartment on April 28, 2019. Singh told police he found his family shot to death, and he didn't know who did it or why. A hearing in the case has been set for November 1st.

 

Hamilton Police Officer Fired

Hamilton Police Chief Craig Bucheit has announced the firing of a police officer who faces vandalism and OVI charges after a crash on Cincinnati-Brookville Road in Morgan Township on September 16th. Sergeant Casey Johnson allegedly kicked and damaged the inside door of a police cruiser, and refused an alcohol test. Hamilton police say he was also involved in an altercation in the parking lot during the Ross vs. Badin game that night. Bucheit calls the allegations undisputed and deeply troubling, despite an exemplary career of 18 years. The 40 year old officer was recently promoted to sergeant.
