Butler County State Representative Wes Retherford spent his Sunday in the Butler County jail after being arrested on charges of OVI and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. The incident took place at the McDonalds restaurant next to the Liberty Square Shopping Center on Route 4 in Liberty Township. Dispatchers received a call that a male was found passed out behind the wheel his vehicle in the drive-thru. Retherford was arrested on an OVI charge, and during the investigation, a loaded gun was found in a seat of the vehicle. Retherford was also charged with a felony weapons violation.
The Butler County Democratic party issued a news release saying the felony would mean Retherford's automatic expulsion from the Ohio House of Representatives. The party also said alcohol and guns are a reckless mix, and they are glad nobody was physically hurt as a result Retherford's actions. The party also said they were extremely disappointed in Retherford's actions and pray "he takes the opportunity to get the help he so obviously needs."
