When Radio Was

When Radio Was is Radio Spirits' nationally syndicated radio program which is hosted by old-time radio expert Greg Bell.

Having graduated from the University of Illinois, where he studied theater and film, Bell's broadcasting career began in his home state's capital, Springfield, Illinois. Over the next twenty years (almost), he learned the radio business thoroughly through stints as a music DJ, news director, national talk show producer and program director in locations all around the country, including Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Boise, Idaho; and Washington, D.C.
Growing up in Central Illinois, nearly smack dab between St. Louis and Chicago, allowed Greg to enjoy both rich and rewarding radio markets. As a matter of fact, in one of those quirky coincidences, he developed his appreciation for old-time radio and historical trivia by listening to a show hosted by one his professional predecessors -- the original "When Radio Was" host, Art Fleming.

"I was born just after the 'Golden Age' of radio, so my discovery of 'The Shadow', 'Gunsmoke', 'Fibber McGee and Molly', 'Dragnet', Jack Benny, 'Suspense' and so many others came gradually, and usually late at night," says Greg. "Like all kids my age, I was spoiled by TV, but the power of the storytelling drew me in and I marveled at radio's ability to fully paint a picture with only audio as a brush."

Since 2002, Greg has served as program director and host of Sirius XM Radio's very popular old-time radio channel, "RadioClassics". "Over the past few years, I have heard from many folks well under Jack Benny's age (39), who tell me how surprised and thrilled they are to discover how cool these shows are at 50, 60 even 70 years after they originally aired," says Greg. "As the host of 'When Radio Was', I hope I can continue to bring these wonderful nuggets from the past to a whole new audience, while also entertaining the long-term old-time radio fans as well."

Liberty Nation

Each week, Liberty Nation brings fresh, unconventional and liberty-based perspectives to the familiar as well as overlooked stories in the realm of politics and policy.

Liberty Nation is hosted by Mark Angelides, Managing Editor of LibertyNation.com. Hailing from the UK, he specializes in EU politics and provides a conservative/libertarian voice on all things from across the pond. During the Brexit Referendum campaign, Mark worked to promote activism, spread the message and secure victory.

Liberty Nation speaks to those listeners that are tired of the crony capitalism and the ever-expanding government agenda pushed by both parties. From major stories like the fate of Obama Care to less publicized issues such as the encroachment of government agencies like the EPA, Liberty Nation provides a destination for clear and concise answers to the tough questions facing our great Republic.

With a guest list that includes some of America’s most prominent pro-freedom thinkers, Liberty Nation digs deep enough to discern the real meanings and motives behind the words and actions of public figures, separating the program from much of the noise and partisan talking point thinking that has become so pervasive in talk radio.

As the actions of our government affect the real lives and constitutional liberties of individuals, Liberty Nation is there to provide listeners useful information in an entertaining format.

Larry Elder

Larry Elder personifies the phrase “We’ve Got a Country to Save”

The “Sage from South Central” is back on the radio and TV!

Larry is well known for over 20 years as a radio talk show host on KABC in Los Angeles. He joined Salem’s KRLA, AM 870 The Answer in 2016, and was later syndicated across the country by Salem Radio Network.

Larry took some time away from radio/TV to run a highly successful candidacy during the Gavin Newsom re-call election in 2021. While the voters did not re-call the governor that time, Elder proved he was a viable candidate garnering the most votes of the 50 candidates running to replace Newsom. From that experience, Elder decided to run for President of the United States in the 2024 election. He dropped out of that race in October 2023, and threw his support behind former president Donald Trump.

Larry began to focus on his successful podcast “Larry Elder – We’ve Got a Country to Save” which is now reaching 500,000 downloads per episode. Larry continues with that podcast, but now can be heard across the country in the PM drive time slot on the west coast. He’s heard on plenty of radio stations, but is also carried live on the Salem News Channel.
