TORCH RUN COMING WEDNESDAY

(West Chester)--The Southwest Ohio leg of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will move through West Chester Wednesday morning. The route will begin at the Boys and Girls Club of West Chester on Cincinnati Dayton Road, and will proceed 3.1 miles to the West Chester Justice Center on Beckett Road, beginning at 11:00am. Motorists are being urged to be careful for the runners, who will be escorted by police vehicles. The final leg of the Torch Run will take place Friday evening, as the torch arrives at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State University campus for the Special Olympic games.

BADIN NAMES ADMINISTRATORS

(Hamilton)---Badin High School has named a longtime Hamilton City School administrator as its first female dean of students. Mrs. Patty Gibbons has been named Assistant Principal/Dean of Students, while Ms. Sara Ransom will serve as Assistant Principal/Dean of Academics, according to a release from the Catholic high school on New London Road. Gibbons served 19 years as an assistant principal in the Hamilton City School District. She graduated from Hamilton High in 1994. Ransom has been a member of the Badin faculty for the past three years. Badin recently named Brian Pendergest the school's first president , with Patrick Keating taking over as principal.

TRAIN HITS WOMAN

(Hamilton)--Hamilton police continue to investigate a train vs. pedestrian accident that happened Sunday afternoon near the downtown area. 27 year old Destiny Allison lost one of her arms and part of her foot when she was hit by the train on South Martin Luther King Boulevard and Pershing Avenue, near the historic train depot. Allen was taken to Kettering Health Hamilton, then transfered to UC Hospital by Med Flight helicopter.

SINKHOLE BLOCKS MAJOR ROAD

(West Chester)--A sinkhole has forced the closure of a major east-west artery in West Chester Township. West Chester Road is closed between Cincinnati-Dayton Road and Barret Road until further notice. The township says access to the UDF store will be maintained. A notice posted on the township's Facebook page says the road could be closed awhile, so they're asking motorists to plan accordingly.

RUPPERT DEAD

Butler County's most notorious killer is dead. James Ruppert, who killed 11 members of his family during an Easter Sunday massacre, passed away over the weekend. He was 88. Ruppert was serving life prison terms in connection with what was once the largest mass murder in american history. It happened at the Ruppert family home on Minor Avenue in Lindenwald. Today, the incident is listed as the 25th worst mass shooting in the U.S. Ruppert was being housed at the Corrections Medical Center at the time of his death. Ruppert was denied parole on three occasions, and was up for parole again in 2025, according to records from the Ohio Department of Corrections.

GAS PRICES SKYROCKET

Gas prices continued to skyrocket around the country this week, with no end seemingly in sight. For the first time ever, the average price per gallon surged over the $5.00/gallon mark in Greater Cincinnati Wednesday. Gas Buddy says regular unleaded is averaging $5.09 a gallon, up 31 cents over last week, and up 95 cents over the past month. You are paying $1.96 more at the pump than you did one year ago.
