Vance Becomes VP

Middletown native J.D. Vance has taken the oath of office to become the 50th Vice President of the United States. Vance's wife Usha held the Bible as Vance repeated the oath given to him by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh:

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Vance and President Trump escorted former President Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris as they left the capitol. Afterward, Vance spoke briefly to supporters while introducing Trump, saying "thank God we moved that thing indoors. It was a beautiful ceremony, but it was cold as hell outside."

The inaugural parade was moved to the Capital One Center due to the weather. The Middletown High School Marching Band traveled to Washington to take part in the parade, at the invitation of Vance.

Vance's mother, Beverly Aikins, wore a bright red dress as she sat near her son on the dais.
She was not only celebrating her son's swearing-in, but January 20th is also her birthday.

Cold Snap Arrives

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory, which is in effect until 10:00am Wednesday. The agency is predicting wind chills as low as 20 below zero, which could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. You should dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you decide to go outside. You are advised to keep your pets indoors as much as possible. Temperatures will rise above freezing on Thursday, with a high Saturday around 42, with partly sunny skies.

DeWine Chooses Husted

Governor Mike DeWine has chosen his Lieutenant Governor to become Ohio's next U.S. Senator. During a news conference Friday, DeWine announced that Jon Husted will take over the seat left vacant by the resignation of J.D. Vance, who becomes the nation's 50th vice president on Monday. DeWine says he wanted to choose someone who understood the seriousness of the job, and would be able to run for the seat in a spacial election in 2026, and again in 2028 for the full term. St. Xavier grad Vivek Ramaswamy was also lobbying for the job. He is reportedly considering a run for governor in 2026.

Chase Suspect Bound Over

A man accused of leading several police agencies on a pursuit in a stolen semi truck has had his case bound over to a Butler County grand jury. 37 year old Joseph Horton appeared for a preliminary hearing Friday in Hamilton Municipal Court. The Butler County Sheriff's Office says the chase lasted an hour and a half, traveling through Middletown, Trenton, Preble County, and back into Butler County, where the chase ended after the truck hit stop sticks on US-127 north of Black Street in Hamilton. Horton is currently charged with receiving stolen property, and failure to comply with an order of a police officer. His bond was continued at $85,000.

Vance Becomes VP Monday

Middletown native J.D. Vance will become the nation's 50th Vice President when he is sworn-in Monday (January 20) just before President-Elect Donald Trump takes his oath of office. The inaugural ceremony has been moved inside the Capitol Rotunda because of severe cold weather being forecast for the Washington DC area. The inaugural parade has also been moved inside. President Trump and Vice President Vance will attend the event at Capital One Arena. The Middletown High School Marching Band has been invited to march in the parade. Vance is a Middie grad.

More Snow Coming

(Hamilton)--More snow is coming to Butler County. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective at 11:00am Friday January 10th until 10:00am Saturday January 11th. Forecasters say the area will get 3-4 inches of new snow. Hamilton city leaders were urging residents to park in their driveways in order to allow snow plows to do their work. Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones says the lobby of the Butler County Jail will serve as a warming center for those who need to come out of the cold. There are also warming centers at the Lane Library on North Third Street from 9am-6pm Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm.

Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for 10:00am Sunday Morning until 12:00 Midnight Monday Night. The weather agency is forecasting snow and sleet accumulations of 5-to-9 inches and ice accumulatiuons of one tenth of an inch.
