Butler County's most notorious killer is dead. James Ruppert, who killed 11 members of his family during an Easter Sunday massacre, passed away over the weekend. He was 88. Ruppert was serving life prison terms in connection with what was once the largest mass murder in american history. It happened at the Ruppert family home on Minor Avenue in Lindenwald. Today, the incident is listed as the 25th worst mass shooting in the U.S. Ruppert was being housed at the Corrections Medical Center at the time of his death. Ruppert was denied parole on three occasions, and was up for parole again in 2025, according to records from the Ohio Department of Corrections.
