Swimming Suspect Captured

A burglary suspect who allegedly jumped into a large pond to avoid capture was arrested Friday by Butler County Sheriff's deputies. 40 year old Mathias Jones of New Miami was arrested on a warrant of Breaking and Entering, a 5th degree felony, according to Detective Janee Lambert. She says Jones was observed fleeing the scene of a business alarm at the old VFW site on the 4000 block of Trenton Road. Deputies chased the suspect, who jumped into the pond, and started swimming. Deputies did not see Jones come out on the other side, triggering a search by the sheriff's Emergency Response Services team, who used boats, sonar, and drones in a day long search. Sheriff Richard Jones is quoted as saying "Great job by all, he should have left the swimming to the muskrats."
