Liberty Township Trustees have accepted the donation of nearly 4.8 acres of land, with plans to create a new township park. Howard J. Thomin is giving the township his property located at 4231 Princeton Road, just east of Liberty-Fairfield Road, with the understanding the new park will be named Thomin Park. As part of the deal, the township agrees to maintain the large barn, cabin, and milk house on the property, and to restore the "Mail Pouch" sign on the side of the barn. They will also install signage that provides a historic background on the property. "I've been here quite a long time, and I don't remember anyone donating land to our park system here," said Trustee Tom Farrell "our predecessors worked very hard to get a park system together that we can be proud of, and this will just make it that much better." Trustee Todd Minniear said the park "is going to be something that lives for generations beyond any of us in a positive way, so it's a pretty neat thing." Township Administrator Caroline McKinney says a ceremony dedicating the park will be held sometime after the real estate closing.
