Vance Becomes VP

Middletown native J.D. Vance has taken the oath of office to become the 50th Vice President of the United States. Vance's wife Usha held the Bible as Vance repeated the oath given to him by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh:

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Vance and President Trump escorted former President Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris as they left the capitol. Afterward, Vance spoke briefly to supporters while introducing Trump, saying "thank God we moved that thing indoors. It was a beautiful ceremony, but it was cold as hell outside."

The inaugural parade was moved to the Capital One Center due to the weather. The Middletown High School Marching Band traveled to Washington to take part in the parade, at the invitation of Vance.

Vance's mother, Beverly Aikins, wore a bright red dress as she sat near her son on the dais.
She was not only celebrating her son's swearing-in, but January 20th is also her birthday.
