REMEMBERING MARY LAW

A longtime political icon in Butler County has passed away. Mary C. Law served as Butler County's treasurer from 1981 until 2001. She was nicknamed "The Velvet Steamroller" for her penchant to solve tough problems with a smile and kind demeanor. The Butler County Republican Party says she suffered a fall at her home last week, and died in hospice care on Monday. She was 90. Law's husband Richard, a former chairman of the Butler County GOP, passed away back in March. Mary Law's family is planning a memorial service for March 13th.

"There is a plaque on the wall outside the Butler County Treasurer’s office in honor of Mary C. Law, which lists her accomplishments. She was named “Outstanding Woman of Community Achievement in Butler County” in 1988. She was the first woman to serve as the United Way Campaign Chair and was a founding member of the Congressional Awards Council. Mary was nominated as Hamilton’s Citizen of the Year in 1989. The Hamilton Journal News named Mary, “One of the Most Influential Persons in Butler County” from 1983 through 1985. A born-again Christian, Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and everyone’s friend."
