(HAMILTON)--A grand jury has cleared a SWAT team member in the shooting death of a suspect back in January. Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser says the shooting happened at the end of a standoff in Liberty Township on January 11th. 31 year old Junius Thomas broke into a woman's apartment armed with a pistol. The woman was able to escape, and called 9-1-1.
The SWAT team surrounded the apartment, and tried to negotiate a surrender. Police say Thomas became agitated and irrational before he broke off contact.
After a couple of attempts to deploy a robot, Thomas came to the door pointing a gun at SWAT team members, who fatally shot Thomas. A grand jury ruled the shooting was justified. Gmoser has a policy of bringing every police involved shooting to a grand jury for review.
