Coronavirus: One Year Later

HAMILTON--It has been a year since the Coronavirus was declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. Hamilton City Health Commissioner Kay Farrar gave an update to Hamilton City Council during their regular meeting Wednesday night. Farrar says Butler County has reported 35,972 cases of COVID-19 over the past year, with 535 deaths. The City of Hamilton accounts for 5,227 of those cases, with 133 deaths. Farrar told council the city is averaging 50 new cases per week, compared to 90 new cases a few weeks ago. The city has vaccinated 3,717 residents since December, and that number increases to 6,446 when the vaccine clinics for school workers are figured in. Thursday was the beginning of Phase 2-B for Ohio's vaccine program.
Those eligible for vaccines now include people over 50, those suffering from Type 2 diabetes, and end stage renal disease. You can sign up for vaccines on the new state portal at https://gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov/
