Celebrating 75 years Since Nuxy's MLB Debut

HAMILTON--Today marks a big anniversary for the sports world.
75 years ago today, Hamilton's own Joe Nuxhall made his major league debut at the age of 15. He was signed out of Wilson Junior High School after major league rosters were depleted by players fighting in World War II. Nuxhall's record as the youngest major league player stands to this day. Nuxhall's hometown will celebrate Joe Nuxhall Day on Saturday at L.J. Smith Park in Hamilton's North End. The event runs from 10:00am-2:30pm, with the fields being dedicated in honor of the Ol' Left Hander. There will also be free food, displays, and pickup baseball games. Organizer Tom Spoonster says he is trying to raise the money to put up an historical marker at the park by 2020. Saturday is also Hamilton Night at Great American Ballpark, where the Reds are taking on the Texas Rangers.
