Former Local Choir Director Mentored Idol Runner-Up

(Cleveland, TN)---A former local choir director will have a new set of wheels after an appearance on Fox's American Idol. Jim Phillips (pictured with wife Johnna) is currently the Campus Choir director at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, but he spent 30 years as music pastor at the Princeton Pike Church of God in Liberty Township. Phillips mentored Idol finalist and campus choir alumnus Clark Beckham, who invited him to Wednesday's season finale. Beckham finished second in the competition, but host Ryan Seacrest surprised Phillips with a set of keys to a new Ford Focus to honor his work with Beckham.
