(Hamilton)---Construction officially begins Monday on the City of Hamilton's $8.5 million Gateway project on High Street between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Erie Highway. Lane closures begin Wednesday night between 7:30pm-5:00am between Seventh Street and East Avenue for installation of the storm sewer. Traffic will be down to one lane during the nighttime hours, so motorists are being advised to consider Heaton and Dayton Streets and Maple Avenue as alternatives. When completed, there will be new landscaped medians and curb lawns along High Street. Utilities will be moved underground, and there will be new turn lanes from Erie Highway to eastbound and westbound High Street. Crews will also rehab East Avenue and Seventh Street, and will add new commercial access drives along East High Street. The project is expected to be completed by July 2015.
