The Butler County General Health District says a suspected case of meningococcal disease has been diagnosed in a Miami University student in Oxford. The agency is trying to find anyone who may have been in close contact with the student, and are offering them antibiotics for the rare disease. Meningococcal disease can lead to cases of meningitis or septicemia. Both could be deadly. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, and a purple rash. If you have any questions, contact the General Health District at (513) 863-1770.
