Freak Storm Floods West Side

A freak thunderstorm that churned over Hamilton's west side Thursday dumped over four inches of rain on the area, flooding streets, homes, and businesses from Highland Park to New London Hills. A Flash Flood Warning was issued at 2:19 p.m. by the National Weather Service. Water covered Main Street near Lawn Avenue, flooding Michael's Designer Salon at 937 Main Street, where workers waded barefoot through the waters (pictured) while taking photos and videos of the flooding. The Hamilton Fire Department responded to nearly a dozen calls of flooded homes and basements from 2:18pm-6:48pm. Areas affected included Western Avenue, Millikin Street, Ross Avenue, South Washington Boulevard, Carmen Avenue, and Highland Avenue. The City of Hamilton issued a news release saying they were dealing with a number of issues, such as debris on the streets, missing manhole covers, plugged catch basins, and sanitary and storm sewer pipes.
