Reds Close Out Successful Homestand

(Cincinnati)--Jay Bruce drove in Brandon Phillips with an RBI triple in the bottom of the 9th inning as the Reds closed out a successful opening homestand with a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds begin the season 5-1, good enough for first place in the National League Central Division, a half game ahead of the Cubs. Eugenio Suarez continued his hot streak, going 3-for-4 with a home run, his 4th of the young season. The last Red to hit 4 homers in the first 6 games was Adam Dunn, back in 2004, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Tim Melville made his first major league start for the Reds, pitching 4 innings, giving up a run on five hits, 4 walks and 5 strike outs. Ross Ohlendorf picked up the win for the Reds. Manager Bryan Price says the team is having a lot of fun as they head to Chicago to begin a three game series with the Cubs on Monday.
